Hi, my name is Mrs. Demusz,
This is my sixth year at SMSA. I came from Moylan where I taught middle school science for one year. Prior to Moylan, I worked at Weaver High School for 5 years. I would like to share my background with you all.
I graduated early from Pulaski High School in New Britain in 1979 and attended George Washington University and the University of Delaware until 1980. I completed my undergraduate work in Pathobiology at the University of Connecticut in Storrs in 1983 after which I undertook graduate work in the field of Biology at the University of Hartford. I earned my Masters in Science in 1987.
From 1983 until 1987, I worked for a Pesticide Research company based in Farmington, CT as a scientist. Upon completing my Masters degree, I joined Bristol Myers-Squibb in 1987 where I worked as a Cardiovascular Scientist for 3 years. I left the laboratory to expand my family. During this time, I worked as a science teacher at Avon Old Farms boys preparatory school for 8 years. After my fourth child turned two, I enrolled in the Alternate Route to Certification Program. This program allows individuals with field experience to fulfill the requirements necessary to teach in the state of Connecticut. After eight gruelling weeks in the summer of 2000, I earned my certificate and have been teaching ever since. My first teaching job was at South Windsor High School after which I joined Weaver's staff in 2004.
I live in Simsbury and am a mother of four. My oldest daughter graduated from the University of Hartford with a major in Psychology. She and her husband have blessed us with three beautiful grandchildren, Skyler, Phoebe and Oliver. My younger daughter graduated from the Hartt School of Music at The University of Hartford. She transferred from Temple University where she was a Jazz Performance major to become a Music Production Technology major. She is now employed by Telefunken where she is the office manager. I also have two sons. My older son graduated from the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford. My youngest is a senior at Simsbury High School. Our family is bicultural since my husband is from Poland as well as my parents and generations before. I speak Polish fluently and I am familiar with the Spanish language after studying it for several years.
My passion is teaching science! After years of studying science as well as working in the field, it is most exciting for me to share what I have learned and experienced as both a student and scientist with your students.
